Coker Defeats Queens 7-4, Moves to Winner's Bracket

BURLINGTON, N.C. – With seven runs on 12 hits, the Coker softball team defeated the Queens University of Charlotte Royals 7-4 in the first round of the 2013 Conference Carolinas softball tournament on Friday (Apr. 19). The win moves the No. 5 seed Cobras into the winner's bracket, where they will take on the winner of the game between the No. 1 seed King and the No. 8 seed Pfeiffer at 4 p.m. Friday.

Jaclin Poole and Bryant McLendon were the driving forces behind the Cobra victory. Poole was a perfect 4-for-4, falling just short of the cycle with a pair of doubles and a triple. She also drove in two runs and scored two. McLendon finished the game 3-or-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Abbey Younger also drove in two runs for the Cobras.

Lauren Phillips (13-9) picked up the win in the circle; while Breanna Skipper (1) earned her first save of the season. Phillips tossed four innings allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts, and Skipper threw three solid innings, giving up just one hit.
