Cobras Take One Give One With Eagles in Home Finale

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – In their 2013 home finale, the Coker softball team split a doubleheader series with the Carson Newman Eagles on Sunday (Apr. 14).

Coker (24-16) took control of game one after senior shortstop Jaclin Poole drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.  The Cobras' only run of the game came in the bottom of the third, but it would prove to be enough as they shutout the Eagles in all seven innings to preserve the 1-0 win.

The Eagles began game two with three doubles to drive in two runs in the top of the first inning.  Carson Newman would then go on to score again in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead on the Cobras.

Coker would threaten with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but could not drive in the necessary runs.  Carson Newman went on to take game two 3-0.

Breanna Skipper (10-3) would get credit for the win in game one, but be charged with the loss in game two.  Skipper pitched 6.2 innings giving up five hits and three runs, while collecting six strikeouts.

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Cobras will now move on the Conference Carolinas tournament.  Their competition date and opponent is yet to be determined.
