Coker Softball Split Series With Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Coker softball team split a doubleheader series with Erskine College on Saturday (Apr. 13) in Conference Carolinas action.  The Cobras improve to 23-15 on the year, and 12-8 in league play.

Sydney Weatherford got things started in game one for the Cobras when she doubled in the top of the fourth inning.  Stacy Burr then drew a walk to bring Logan Cox to the plate.  Cox grounded out to second base but batted in the games first run in the process.

Coker would tack on another run in the top of the sixth, when Bryant McLendon singled to drive in Burr from third base.  The run would prove to be the difference as the Cobras took control of game one 2-1.

Lauren Phillips would pick up the win from the mound and improve to 12-8 on the year.  Phillips pitched a complete game only allowing two hits and striking out three batters.

In game two the Cobras found themselves down 1-0 through five innings of play, but rallied back in the top of the sixth with three runs to take a 3-1 lead.  The Flying Fleet however responded in the bottom of the sixth with four runs and would win the game by a final score of 5-3.

Coker will be back in action on Sunday (Apr. 14), as they return home for a non-conference matchup against Carson Newman.  Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m., start time followed by game two at 2:00 p.m.
