Cobras Power Past Bobcats With 2-0 Series Sweep

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Coker softball team earned a sweep of the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Saturday (Apr. 6), in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader.  With the win the Cobras improve to 22-12 on the year, and 11-5 in the league.

It did not take long for the Cobras offense to get rolling in game one, as they scored a total of seven runs in the third and fourth innings.  They would eventually go on to score two more runs in the top of the sixth to put the eight run rule into effect with a final score of 9-1.

Senior Jaclin Poole led the offensive attack for the Cobras with a homer and five RBIs.  Sarah Rountree and Sydney Weatherford each had two doubles, and drove in a combined four RBIs.

Lauren Phillips would earn the win after pitching six innings and only allowing one run on four hits.

Coker got on the board first in game two with one run in the top of the first, but that lead was erased when the Bobcats responded with two runs in the top of the second.  The Cobras however would score two more runs in the third, and extend their lead to a 4-2 final, after scoring a run in the top of the sixth.

Phillips would also get the win in game two, after giving up no runs and striking out two batters in five innings of work.

Coker will have little time to enjoy the victories, as they travel to face King in a Conference Carolinas match on Sunday (Apr. 7).  Game one will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
