
Coker Softball Takes Two From BAC
The Cobras added a pair of wins to their record on Thursday, after defeating Belmont Abbey in a series 3-2 and 3-0.
BELMONT, N.C. – The Coker softball team defeated Belmont Abbey in a double-header series on Thursday (Mar. 14). With the win the Cobras improve to 15-7 on the year and 8-2 in league action.
In game one the Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead on the Cobras after an RBI single. Coker would respond by scoring a run in three straight innings to take a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Belmont Abbey would score one run, but it was not enough to halt the Cobras from a 3-2 victory.
Lauren Phillips would be credited with the game one win, after pitching a complete game. Phillips improves to 6-4 on the year.
The navy and yellow started game two with 3-of-4 batters reaching base safety. Then with the bases loaded and one out, Stacy Burr singled up the middle to drive in the games first RBI and the leading 1-0 run.
Coker would go on to score two more runs in the top of the third, allowing the Cobras to preserve a 3-0 advantage.
Burr was the leading batter for the Cobras, going 3-for-4 at the plate. She also drove in an RBI, and scored a run.
Breanna Skipper would add to her win column after pitching a complete game on Thursday. Skipper gave up no runs on two hits, and struck out four batters. She has the highest amount of wins for a pitcher in the league, with a record of 8-1 on the year.
Coker will return home on Saturday (Mar. 16), to face Limestone in a Conference Carolinas double-header. Game one will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
