
Coker Softball Going for Eight Straight
The Coker softball team will host Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday (Mar. 10) in Conference Carolinas double-header action.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team will host Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday (Mar. 10) in Conference Carolinas double-header action. Live video coverage of the game will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
Coker is entering the competition on a six game win streak. In fact, the Cobras have not lost a game since February 21 when they fell to Francis Marion 2-0. The navy and yellow are practically perfect at home, posting a 9-1 record on the year.
Senior shortstop Jaclin Poole has had success at the plate with a batting average of .318 on the year. Poole has earned 14-hits, including two doubles and one triple, while driving in seven RBIs. Junior outfielder Sydney Weatherford leads the team with two home runs, along with the team high 15-RBIs.
Lauren Phillips leads the pitching crew with an ERA of just 1.20, and has only allowed 41-hits on 46.2-innings pitched. Breanna Skipper has also been impressive on the mound by posting an ERA of just 1.36. Skipper has only given up 32-hits on 36-innings pitched.
The Royals recently broke a four game losing streak, after defeating the University of Virginia College at Wise 7-5. Queens has tallied a 2-3 away record so far this season.
Queens' offense is powered by Whitney Britt who is batting .442 on the year. Britt has collected 19-hits, three doubles, three triples, and three homeruns, while driving in eight RBIs.
On the mound, the Royals are lead by Lyndey McCurry. McCurry is 2-5 on the year with an ERA of 4.61. She has 21-strikeouts, allowing 49-hits on 38-innings pitched.
Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the second game of the series at 3:00 p.m.
