
Coker Softball Opens League Play Against Barton
The Coker Softball team will be back in action this Saturday (Mar. 2), agains the Bulldogs of Barton College.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Softball team will kick-off Conference Carolinas play on Saturday (Mar. 2) against Barton College in a double-header at Saleeby-Stokes field.
With their last four games cancelled due to poor weather conditions, the Cobras have not played since February 21 against Francis Marion.
Sophomore Katelyn Szupello leads the Coker offense with a batting average of .471 on the year. Sydney Weatherford has not been shy at the plate either with a .458 batting average that includes the team leading eight RBIs.
Pitching has proven to be strong for Coker thus far with outstanding performances from Breanna Skipper and Lauren Phillips. Skipper leads the team with an ERA of 1.75, while Phillips is close behind with an ERA of 2.18.
Barton (1-7) is coming off a loss at Catawba, and will also be opening up their league play on Saturday. The Bulldogs are lead by Autumn Pittman who is batting .300 at the plate, and Rachel Jordan who is hitting .292. Senior Elizabeth Webb has earned five starts on the mound for Barton with an ERA of 2.33.
The Softball action will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the second game at 3:00 p.m.
