Cobras Tame Bobcats in Conference Softball Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball swept the Lees-McRae Bobcats, winning 8-0 in five innings and 4-1, in Conference Carolinas softball action on Sunday afternoon. The wins improve the Cobras record to 10-9 in league play and 18-18 overall.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (6-5) earned her second shutout victory in as many games with the win in game one. Dillon tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts.

Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) drove in three runs with a double and run scored to lead the offense in game one, while Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

In game two, Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) (6-4) earned the complete game victory in the circle. She went seven innings allowing one run on four hits with five punch-outs.

Katelyn Szupello (Port Orange, Fla.) was the leader at the plate in game two. She had a pair of hits, including a triple with an RBI. Burr also drove in a run, as did Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.).

The Cobras will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Greenwood, S.C. to take on Lander University in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Becky Dillon

Dillon earned her second complete game shutout in as many games, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
