Cobras Split Non-Conference Doubleheader with West Liberty

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) and Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) collected four hits each in Coker's non-conference twinbill with West Liberty University on Thursday. The Cobras and the Hilltoppers split their two-game series; Coker won game one 10-2 in five innings and West Liberty won game two 4-2.

GAME ONE

The Cobras scored at least a run in four of the five innings to take home the run differential victory in game one. Bryant McLendon (Lake City, S.C.) was the leading hitter, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) had a double with two RBIs. Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) drove in two runs on two hits with three runs scored. Rountree and Weatherford had a pair of hits with two runs scored each, while Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) added an RBI on two hits including a triple.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach Fla.) (3-4) earned the win in the circle. She threw all five innings allowing two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day was a pitchers duel between Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) and West Liberty's Beck Fortuna. Both pitchers surrendered a run in the first, but then effectively shut down the hitters, as the next three innings were scoreless. The Hilltoppers pushed two across in the top of the fifth, but Coker made sure to stay within striking distance with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After a scoreless sixth, West Liberty added an insurance run to make it 4-2.

Cox (5-4) took the loss. She allowed four runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. She also struck out six Hilltopper batters.

Rountree and Weatherford led the offense with two hits and a stolen base each. Easler and Burr each drove in a run for the Cobras.

Coker will be back on the field on Saturday when they host the Saints of Limestone College in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
