Coker Splits Conference Twinbill with Barton

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker softball team split their Conference Carolina's doubleheader with Barton on Wednesday, winning game one 8-0 in six innings and losing game two 8-6.

GAME ONE

Freshman Katie Lee (Debary, Fla.) was nearly untouchable in game one as she went the distance for the Cobras allowing just one hit in six innings with eight strikeouts. With the win, Lee improved her record to 2-1 on the year.

The Cobras scored four runs in the second, two in the fourth and another two in the sixth on nine hits and two Bulldog errors. Jaclyn Poole (Clover, S.C.) led the offense by driving in three runs on a pair of hits including a double, while Clarissa Suttle (Piedmont, S.C.) had three hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) also had two hits with a double and an RBI.

GAME TWO

In game two the Cobras mounted a late inning comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs in the final frame, but the rally came up short.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (2-4) took the loss. She allowed four runs on one hit in 4.2 innings of work.

Burr added another two hits, including a double with an RBI, while Katelyn Szupello (Port Orange, Fla.) had a solo homer, an RBI and a run scored.

The Cobras will be back at home for their next games, a doubleheader, on Saturday against Lees-McRae starting at 1 p.m.

Lee allowed just one hit with eight strikeouts in game one.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
