Big Bats Power Coker Past Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coker softball team swept past the Fighting Koalas of Columbia College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon winning 18-6 and 6-4. The wins improved the Cobras to 5-3 on the year.

It was another high offense day for the Cobras who have now scored 76 runs in their first eight games. As a team, Coker hit six home runs and drove in 24 total runs in their two games against Columbia.

Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.), this week's conference player of the week, and Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) each had six hits over the two games. Burr had a home run, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored, while Rountree had a double, two RBIs and five runs scored.

Also belting home runs were Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.), Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.), Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) and Katelyn Szupello (Port Orange, Fla.). Poole finished the day 5-for-7 with five RBIs and six runs scored, while Easler was 3-for-7 with five RBIs and two runs scored.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (1-2) got the win in game one. She allowed two runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Cox (2-0) was the winning pitcher in game two. She went the distance throwing all seven innings allowing four runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

The Cobras will return to the diamond on Saturday when they travel to Anderson University for another non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
