Burr Drives in Five as Cobras Split with Wolves

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Sophomore catcher Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) drove in five runs on the day as the Coker softball team spilt their non-conference doubleheader with Newberry College on Sunday afternoon.

The Cobras opened the day with a 15-7 six-inning win over the Wolves in game one. Five Coker players drove in two or more runs in the game, while combining for 15 hits as a team.

Freshman Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) (1-0) earned her first collegiate win in relief. She threw 2.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits.

Game two was another offense heavy game, but this time the Wolves came out on top with a 9-7 win over the Cobras. The Cobras combined for 11 hits, six of which went for extra bases in the loss. 

Senior Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (0-2) took the loss. She went six innings allowing nine runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts.

Burr finished the day 5-for-8 with five RBIs, a double, a home run and a run scored, while Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) was 4-for-8 with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored.

The Cobras will be back on the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on the Fighting Koalas of Columbia College in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
