HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Seniors Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) and Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) made their Senior Day count as they extended the Coker softball team’s winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Shaw University in non-conference softball action on Monday afternoon. The Cobras won game one 6-0 and dominated game two 14-1 in five innings.
The wins improve the Cobras to 19-17 on the year with just over a week left in the regular season.
GAME ONE
In game one Greenwalt (6-6) was masterful on the mound, as she held the Bears hitless through four innings and did not allow a run through five innings while striking out four. Greenwalt gave way for Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the sixth inning and she too allowed just one hit while throwing two scoreless innings in relief.
Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) led the Coker offense with home run two RBIs and two runs scored, while Rogers had two hits including a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) also had two hits with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) and Katie McElveen (Hartsville, S.C.) each drove in a run for the Cobras.
GAME TWO
The second game saw an offensive explosion from the Cobras, as 15 Coker hitters combined for 17 hits, including four players that had two or more hits. Rogers led the offense going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) was also perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs, while Dillon had a double with two RBIs and Kentesha Jenkins (Darlington, S.C.) had a double and drove in a run for the Cobras. Also earning multiple hits was Jennifer Sanborn with two hits and two runs scored.
Jordan Atkinson (Bishopville, S.C.) (6-6) got the win tossing five innings allowing just three hits and an unearned run with seven strikeouts.
The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at home against Erskine College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
