HIGH POINT, N.C. - Coker College has been selected fifth in the 2011 Conference Carolinas softball preseason poll as voted on by the league head coaches. The Cobras received 43 votes placing them in a tie for fifth with Pfeiffer University.
Limestone College and Queens University of Charlotte share this year’s top position in the poll with both teams received 74 points, but Queens edged out Limestone with a 6-3 advantage in first place votes. Erskine College is third and Mount Olive ranked fourth.
The Cobra softball team looks to make 2011 a successful year with the return of the team’s leading hitter and pitcher from last season. Senior Haleigh Rogers led the Cobras with a .365 batting average, while fellow classmate Sydney Greenwalt was 12-14 on the mound with a 4.32 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 152 innings of work.
Head Coach David Hanna and his team are hopeful that the addition of 11 new players will help lift the Cobras back to the top of the Conference Carolinas standings this season.
Coker opens their season on Friday, Feb. 18 at home in a non-conference double-header against Brooklyn College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
