HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team earned a place in the Conference Carolinas softball tournament with a pair of wins over Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Cobras won game one 3-1 and then followed that performance up with a 4-2 win in game two. The wins improve Coker to 7-13 in conference play and give them the eighth and final spot in the conference Carolinas tournament.

As the # 8 seed in the tournament, Coker will play the #1 seed Limestone College in the first round of the tournament on Friday, April 16 noon at Byerly Park in Hartsville.

GAME ONE

Coker scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) and a two run double by Anna Oswald (Lexington, S.C.).

Barton’s lone run of the game was scored in second inning by Rebecka Morgan.

Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) (10-12) picked up the win, going a full seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Kendall Street (4-8) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Rogers was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Lady Cobras, while Oswald had a double with two RBIs. Miranda Klees (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) also had two hits for Coker.

Morgan was the only Barton player with multiple hits, while Jessica McFadden and Amber Fletcher each had a hit.

GAME TWO

Much like game one Barton was first to get on the board with two run homer by Kelsey Barnes in the second inning  to give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead, but just like game one the Lady Cobras finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Again it was Oswald coming through with another two run double, along with another RBI single from Rogers and an RBI from Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, S.C.).

Greenwalt (11-12) earned her second win of the day with another complete game. She allowed two runs on five hits, while Elizabeth Webb (3-6) took the loss allowing four runs on three hits in two innings of work.

Oswald finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) and Bri Jacobs (Bolton, N.C.) each had a hit for the Lady Cobras.

Barnes led the Lady Bulldgos, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Natalie Phipps was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
