HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker swept the Mount Olive College Trojans in Conference Carolinas softball action on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-3 victory in game one and a 3-2 victory in game two. The Lady Cobras used a grand slam by Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) to generate their offense in the first game and a two-run double from Miranda Klees (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) and RBI single from Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, S.C.) would be all they would need in game two.

The wins improve Coker to 10-19 overall and 5-9 in the conference, while Mount Olive is now 14-24 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

GAME ONE

Game one got started with a bang when Coker loaded the bases on two walks and an error, only to have Poole clear them in a hurry when she belted a grand slam into left field off starter Sasha Snyder. That would be all the offense the Lady Cobras would get for the next six innings, as Lauren Darden came on in relief and held Coker in check.

The Trojans plated single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings; two of which came from solo homers by Aubrey Reinhard (Greensboro, N.C.), but Coker’s Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) was able to close down the Trojan hitters when it mattered most to preserve the win.

Greenwalt(8-9) went five and a third innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win, while Snyder took the loss, allowing four runs on one hit.

Poole had half of the Lady Cobras hits and drove in all four runs, going 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored. Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) Deven Holley (Hartsville, S.C.) and Owens each had a hit as well for Coker.

Reinhard finished the game 2-for-3 with two homers, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Katie Devenuto (Suffolk, Va.) was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Mandy Hensely (Fremont, Ohio) also had two hits for the Trojans and Rebeckah McDaniel (Jacksonville, N.C.) had double and a run scored.

GAME TWO

In game two, the Lady Cobras took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an Owens RBI single. They then added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth with a two-run double from Klees. Mount Olive cut the lead to 3-1 with a RBI single by Robbin Kennedy (Chesapeake, Va.) in the fifth and then got to within one on an RBI by Kayla Voorhees (Waldorf, Md.).

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (2-5) earned the win for Coker, going four innings, allowing one run on five hits with four strikeouts, while Greenwalt picked up the save in three innings of relief, allowing just one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Kristin Ware (Lancaster, Calf.) took the loss for the Trojans. She went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Owens and Rogers each had two hits, with Owens getting a double and driving in a run, while Klees had a double with two RBIs for Coker.

Kennedy finished the game with two hits and RBI, while Reinhard and Katie Nalley (Goldsboro, N.C.) each had a double for Mount Olive.

The Lady Cobras return to action on Tuesday, April 6, when they host St. Augustine’s College in their final home games of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
