NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Coker College softball dropped both games of their non-conference double-header to Newberry College on Sunday afternoon, losing game one 6-0 and then losing game two 5-4. With the losses, the Lady Cobras fall to 6-11 overall, while Newberry improves to 17-3.

GAME ONE

Game one featured a dominating pitching performance by Newberry’s Amanda Huckestein, leading Newberry to the 6-0 win. Huckestein threw the complete game shutout, allowing just one Coker hit with an astounding 15 strikeouts.

Coker’s Jordan Atkinson (Bishopville, S.C.) (0-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in four innings of work.

Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) had the Lady Cobras lone hit of the day, while Newberry’s Huckestein, Felicia Taylor and Stephanie Blazer each had three hits.

GAME TWO

In game two Coker scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Newberry plated two runs of their own in the seventh to take the 5-4 win.

Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) (5-5) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Huckestein earned her second win of the day, throwing two-thirds of an inning of relief, allowing one run on one hit.

Anna Oswald (Lexington, S.C.) led the Coker  offense going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored, while Rogers and Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) each had a double with a run scored. Bri Jacobs (Bolton, N.C.) also had a hit and an RBI for the Lady Cobras.

For Newberry Lindsay Cruz was 3-for-3 and Taylor had the game winning two RBI triple, while Whitney Wiles had a double and two RBIs.

The Lady Cobras return to the diamond on Wednesday, when they travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.
