HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Lady Cobras softball team sweep the Johnson C. Smith (JCSU) Golden Bulls in a non-conference double-header on Wednesday afternoon at the Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field. Coker won both games by run differential, winning game one 13-5 and game two 16-1.

The wins improve the Lady Cobras to 3-1 on the year, while JCSU falls to 1-3.

GAME ONE

Coker scored 11 runs in the first three innings, while pitcher Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) threw three scoreless innings, before the Golden Bulls posted their first runs of the game in the fourth inning.  Johnson C. Smith scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth, but Coker added a run in the fourth and a run in the sixth to give the Lady Cobras the 13-5 win thanks to a eight run differential.

Greenwalt (2-1) earned the win, tossing six innings allowing five runs on four hits with nine strikeouts. The Golden Bulls Kawehionapua Chan took the loss, going 5.2 innings, giving up 13 runs on 13 hits.

Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored, with Anna Oswald (Lexington, S.C.) driving in four runs with a home run and a run scored. Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored and Sarah Price (Little Rock, S.C.) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

For JCSU, Mauranda Elliot was 1-for-3 with a home run with an RBI and a run scored, while Chan had a double with two RBIs and Allycia Wantanabe was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

GAME  TWO

In game two the Lady Cobras posted 16 runs in the first three innings, including a 14 run third inning on their way to a 16-1 victory. The Golden Bulls scored their lone run of the game in the fifth on an Ashley Williams RBI single.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (1-0) earned her first win of the season in the one run game. She allowed just two hits and had five strikeouts. JCSU’s Wantanabe took the loss, allowing 16 runs on 14 hits in four innings of work.

Oswald was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Price was also 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Nicole Rountree (Columbia, S.C.) drove in three runs in her first start of the year and Rogers stayed perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in game two. Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, S.C.) and Bri Jacobs (Bolton, N.C.) each had two hits and two RIs and Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a team high three runs scored.

Chan and Williams had the two hits for JCSU in game two.

The Lady Cobras return to action on Saturday, when they hit the road to face Anderson University in their first Conference Carolinas games of the season. First  pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
