Florence, S.C. – The Coker Softball Team went 1-1 in their second day of play at the 2009 Patriot Invitational, winning 2-0 over Indiana University Pennsylvania and losing 4-2 to host Francis Marion.

After the day, Coker moves to 9-8 on the season, with two games left to play in the Patriot Invitational on Sunday.

In the first game, Coker’s Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IL) earned the win, tossing 6.1 innings shutout innings of softball allowing just two hits.

At the plate, Whitney Wallett (Shermans Dale, PA) and Shannon Mitchell (Virginia Beach, VA) were each 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Brittany Owens (Johnsonville, SC) was also 1-for-3 with a double.

Game two saw Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) took a tough loss, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Owen led the offense, with a home run and two RBIs, while Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC) was 1-for-3 with a double.

Coker returns to Freedom Florence on Sunday for their final day of play in the Patriot Invitational. The Lady Cobras will play USC-Aiken at 11:00 a.m., followed by UNC-Pembroke at 1:00 p.m.
