Hartsville, SC- Coker College Head Softball Coach, David Hanna, announced the signing of Sydney Greenwalt to a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Cobras in 2007-2008 today. Greenwalt is a native of Glen Carbon, Illinois, where she attended Edwardsville High School and was a four-time softball and two-time volleyball letter winner.

 

Greenwalt is a left handed pitcher and she compiled a 21-2 record in 153 innings of work with 153 strikeouts and a 0.87 ERA during her senior season. She led her team to the 2007 Regional, Sectional and Super Sectional Championships, while helping them earn a third place finish in the state championship. Sydney was also named the St. Louis Dispatch Softball Player of the Year.

 

Off the field, she was a member of the honor roll from 2005-2007, was awarded the Renaissance Student of the Month Award in April of 2007 and was presented the Do the Right Thing Award in 2007.

 

Coach Hanna is very excited to have Greenwalt join the Cobras. “I am looking forward to having the first left handed pitcher in Coker Softball history,” said Hanna. “I look for her to step in right away and help us after losing Somer Bigham.”

 

When asked about attending Coker in the fall Greenwalt said, “I am excited to continue my softball career at such a wonderful college and with such a competitive program.”

 

The Coker Softball Team was the 2007 CVAC Champions and they advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in Columbus, GA. The Cobras finished the season with a record of 38-12 overall.
