Hartsville, S.C. – The Coker Lady Cobras Softball Team honored their four seniors, Eunice Nettles (Pelion, SC), Kimberly Atkinson (McBee, SC), Jessica Blackwell (Hartsville, SC) and Whitney Watts (Conway, SC), with a pair of Conference Carolinas wins over the Saints of Limestone College on Tuesday afternoon. Coker won game one with ease, defeating Limestone 9-0 in five innings, but had a slightly harder time wining game two, as they just squeaked by with a 2-0 win. The combined wins bring the Lady Cobras to 30-10 overall, and 15-1 in the conference, while Limestone falls to 19-27 overall, and 7-7 in the conference.

Game One
In game one, Coker exploded onto the board in the second inning, scoring eight runs on six hits, including a  three run double from Atkinson, a RBI double from Nettles, a two run single from Miranda Klees (Murrells Inlet, SC) and an RBI single from Whitney Wallett (Shermans Dale, PA). The Lady Cobras plated their ninth and final run in the third, thanks to sacrifice fly from Ashton Williamson (Pelion, SC).

From their, it was all Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) and Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IL). The two combined for a three hit shut out of the Saints. Catlett (21-5) earned the win, going three innings with three strike outs.

Lauren Robertson took the loss for the Saints, allowing eight runs on six hits in two innings on the mound.

Atkinson led the offense for Coker, going 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Nettles was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Klees was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Wallett was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

For Limestone, Felicia Fritz, Brittany Owens and Christina Woolgar each had a hit.

Game Two
Much like the first game, Coker got on the board in the second inning, this time just scoring their only two runs of the game. After the second inning it was a pitching duel to the end between Limestone’s Emily Wallace and Coker’s Catlett. In the end Catlett (22-5) was victorious, as she was able to give up just one Saint hit over seven innings with seven strike outs.

Wallace took the loss, going six strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with a strike out.

Nettles was the only Lady Cobra with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3, while Klees picked up the two RBIs of the game, finishing 1-for-3 on the day with a double. Wallett and Anna Lucas (McBee, SC) were each 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Fritz had the Saints only hit in the second game, a single through the left side of the infield in the top of the seventh inning, breaking Catlett’s no-hitter.

Coker returns to eh diamond in a crucial Conference Carolinas match-up at Erskine College on Saturday. The Lady Cobras and the Flying Fleet with be battling for the top spot in the conference standings. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
