Laurinburg, N.C. – On a cold and rainy afternoon, the Coker Softball team returned to their winning ways, with a pair of wins over the St. Andrews Knights on Sunday in collegiate softball. The Lady Cobras shut out the Knights in game one 10-0, and then were able to pull out a 5-2 win in game two. The wins improve Coker to 26-10 overall, and 11-1 in Conference Carolinas play, while St. Andrews falls to 8-29 overall, and 3-13 in conference.

Game One
Coker up out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, scoring a run in the second and four more in the fourth, allowing for a five inning shortened win for the Lady Cobras.

Each and every Coker batter collected at least one hit in the game, with six players having multiple hits.

Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) (17-6) earned the win, throwing four and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with five strike outs.

Leading the Lady Cobras offense were Eunice Nettles (Pelion, SC) and Whitney Wallett (Shermans Dale, PA) as they bother were 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kimberly Atkinson (McBee, SC) and Jessica Blackwell (Hartsville, SC) were also 2-for-4 with an RBI each and Blackwell had two runs scored. Anna Lucas (McBee, SC) and Ashton Williamson (Pelion, SC) each had two hits in the game with Lucas driving in a run and Williamson scoring a run.

Game Two
In the second game of the cold afternoon, Coker again scored in the first inning, plating a run. The Lady Cobras scored two more in the fourth and after allowing two St. Andrews runs in the sixth inning, Coker scored two insurance runs in the seventh, for a 5-2 win.

Catlett (18-6) earned her second win of the day, allowing two runs on three hits, with four strike outs in seven innings of work.

Lucas was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Nettles was 2-for-4 and Williamson was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Lady Cobras return to action on Wednesday, as they host the Barton College Bulldogs in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
