Hartsville, S.C. - The Coker Softball Team extended their winning streak to nine games on Tuesday afternoon, as they defeated the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons 7-0 and 6-2 in a non-conference doubleheader. The wins improve Coker to 17-9 overall, while Fairmont falls to 7-5 overall.

Game One
In game one, the Lady Cobras scored their runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Kimberly Atkinson (McBee, SC) hit a double to lead off the second and then came around to score on a Whitney Wallett (Shermans Dale, PA) single and Fairmont error, giving the Lady Cobras their first run. Atkinson gave Coker their next two runs in the third, thanks to a two run blast over the left field fence, giving Coker a 3-0 lead. The Lady Cobras tacked on their next four runs in the fourth with the help of doubles from Anna Lucas (McBee, SC), Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC), Jessica Blackwell (Hartsville, SC) and Eunice Nettles (Pelion, SC).

Fairmont State was able to hold Coker scoreless through the next three innings, but Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) and Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, IL) kept the Falcons hitters off balance, allowing just three hits over seven innings.

Catlett (10-5) earned the win allowing no runs in six innings on the mound, while giving up just two hits, with five strike outs.

Alyssa Childers took the loss, allowing seven runs on right hits in five innings of work, with four strike outs.

Atkinson lead the Cobras offensive in game one, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Blackwell was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Lucas was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and Rogers was 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

For Fairmont, Whitnie highland was 2-for-3 with a double and Kristy Rausch was 1-for-3.

Game Two
In game two, the Fighting Falcons took a 2-0 lead with a run in the second inning, from an RBI double off the bat of Molly McCormick and a home run from Rausch in the fourth.

Coker took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on three hits and two Fairmont errors. The Lady Cobras added their sixth and final run in fifth inning.

Catlett (11-5) earned her second win of the day, throwing a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits with three strike outs.

Katie Burgess took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits with five strike outs in five innings or work.

Blackwell finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Atkinson was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Catlett, Rogers and Julia Nelson-Abbott (Evans, GA) each collected a hit with an RBI.

McCormick and Rausch each finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and Shana O’Briant was 1-for-2.

The Lady Cobras return to the field on Saturday, as they host Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas series starting at 2:00 p.m.
