Hartsville, SC-  Mars Hill College scrapped their way to a victory in game number one on Friday afternoon  and had a huge 7th inning in game number two to secure the sweep over the home standing Cobras at the Saleeby Stokes Softball field by scores of 4-2 and 8-4.

In game number one, the game remained tied with both pitchers controlling the game.  The game swung in Mars Hills favor in the top half of the 6th inning when they were able to push a run across the plate on a single to right field by Tiara Mitchell.  In the seventh, Mars Hill sealed the deal when Rebekah Huff scored on a Cobra error.

Leading the way for Mars Hill at the plate was Rebekah Huff going 2-4  with a run scored and a stolen base.  Four other Mars Hill players had one hit apiece.  As for Coker, Leading the way was Freshman Haleigh Rogers (Ward, SC) going 2-3 with both hits being doubles.  Only three other Cobra batters had a hit in the game.  Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, SC) suffered the loss pitching all seven innings and only allowing 6 hits and 4 runs in which only two of them were earned.

In game number two, Coker looked to have the Victory in hand as they had a 4-2 lead heading into the top half of the seventh inning.  However the visiting Lions of Mars Hill had other ideas.  Mars Hill sent eleven batters to the plate and scored  6 runs capped off by a 3 run homerun by Ashley Harber. This was the second time this week Coker surrendered the lead as they did the same thing on Sunday against Wingate giving up a 4-1 lead heading in the seventh.

At the plate for the Lion‘s, Lindsey Barrier led the way going 3-4 and a run scored.  Rebekah Huff added two more hits as did Natalie Haithcox.  For the Cobras Ashton Williamson (Pelion, SC) found her bat again and banged out three hits and scored a run.  Kimberly Atkinson (McBee, SC) also had two hits including a 2 run home run.  Coker Pitcher Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Illinois) took the loss throwing  7.0 innings and giving 5 runs on 10 Hits.  The other three runs belong to reliever Shelly Catlett.

With the two losses, the Cobras fall to 1-5 on the year and return to action Sunday when they Host Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolina’s doubleheader.
