Hartsville, SC- Highlighted by a pair of home runs in the top of the seventh inning, the Wingate Bulldogs scored seven runs to take home a 8-4 victory over the Coker Cobras in game one of a Sunday afternoon softball double-header. In game two the Bulldogs posted three runs in the first three innings and then held the Cobras to just two hits and no runs in a 3-0 victory. With the pair of wins Wingate improves to 4-0 on the season, while Coker falls to 1-3 overall.

Earning the win in game one was Cristin Kelly going 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while Brittany Blankenship earned the save in an inning of work.

Coker’s Shelly Catlett (0-2) took the loss going seven innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits with four strike outs.

Leading the Coker offense in game one was Jessica Blackwell 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Julia Nelson-Abbott was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Haleigh Rogers was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

For Wingate, Whitney Williams and Leyila Myers were each 2-for-4 with home runs, two RBIs and a run scored. Courtney Wagner and LaRonda McClain were also both 2-for-4 with Wagner hitting a double with a run scored and McClain scoring two runs.

In game two, Blankenship earned the win, going seven innings, allowing just two hits, with nine strikeouts, allowing no runs.

Sydney Greenwalt (1-1) took the loss for Coker, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out six.

At the plate for Coker, Ashton Williamson was 1-for-2 and Ashley Coleman was 1-for-1.

The Bulldogs were led by McLain going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Hallie Pettigrew was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Cobras return to the diamond on Friday, February 15, when they host Mars Hill College at 2:00 p.m.
