Orangeburg, SC- The Coker College Softball Team got their 2007 season off to a strong start as they defeated Albany State 4-0 in their first game of the Claflin Softball Tournament. The Lady Cobras are now 1-0 for the season and are the preseason favorite in the CVAC.

 

Senior pitcher Somer Bigham pitcher her first complete game shutout of the season, going seven strong innings, allowing only two hits, one walk, while striking out 14.

 

The Cobras were led on the offensive side of the plate by Jenna Beatty, who was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly, while Allie Bragg went 2-for-3. Eunice Nettles and Anna Lucas each went 1-for-3, with Nettles hitting a double.

 

Coker returns to the field for three games tomorrow at the Claflin Tournament. The first game of the day starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by a game at 10:30 a.m. and finally a game at 3:00 p.m.
