Day 1 versus Anderson

CONCORD, N.C. — The Coker softball team rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit to defeat Anderson 4-2 in the first day of the CVAC tournament.

Coker will play
Queens today at 2 p.m.

Christan Morabito and Amy Shelley led the Cobras with two hits apiece. Marie Mascio had the go-ahead single in the fifth inning.

Amanda Shelton got the win, striking out eight in five innings. Somer Bigham got the save.

The conference also handed out its postseason awards Friday with Bigham and shortstop Kimberly Atkinson making the first team.

 

Day 2 versus Queens and Barton

CONCORD, N.C. — The Coker softball team stayed alive in the rain-delayed Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament Sunday.


Coker lost the first game, 4-3, to
Queens in eights, but blanked Baton 3-0 in the second.
The Cobras will play today at
9 a.m. in elimination game with the winner advancing to the championship.


Against
Queens, Somer Bigham went all eight innings and struck out nine in the defeat.
Kimberly Atkinson led Coker with three hits including a solo homer. Christan Morabito also added three hits.


In the elimination game against Barton, starter Amanda Shelton pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout in the victory.


Anna Lucas had two hits and Amy Shelley went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
