CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 25, 2006)--The Queens University of Charlotte Royals softball team sweeps Coker College, the 2005 CVAC tournament and regular season champions. With the victory, the Royals improve to 12-0 in CVAC and 21-13 overall while Coker falls to 4-4, 19-12.

Queens stole the first game of the doubleheader 1-0 in an extra inning. Erin Crager’s RBI on the following play would score Ochoa and clinch the win for Queens.

Meg Barker pitched a no-hitter and recorded 9 strike-outs. Said Royals head coach, Adrian Ochoa, “I was extremely pleased with the pitching and defensive performances today. We had a very big team effort that resulted in a huge win for the Royals program.”

In the second game, the Royals coasted to a 3-0 win. Noel Belk tripled before scoring off an Erin Crager RBI to give the Royals a 1-0 advantage in the third inning. In the fourth inning, the Royals extended their lead to 3-0 after a homerun from Kari Kmetic. Mary Lee Guirintano, who singled on the previous play to advance to first base, also scored on the Kmetic homerun. Shea Chafee, Royals starting pitcher in game two, recorded the win while senior Jennifer Churchill was credited with the save.

The Royals travel to Augusta, Georgia tomorrow to play Augusta State University. The first game is slated for 1:00pm.
