Hartsville, SC- The Cobras Softball Team added two more wins to their record, with a sweep of Fairmont State (W. VA) in collegiate softball Tuesday. Coker narrowly won the first game 6-5, but in the second game the Cobras won easily 10-1. Coker now improves their record to 18-7 for the season, while Fairmont drops to 5-4.

In game one, Coker and Fairmont traded runs and tied the game at one, but in the bottom of the second Coker broke open the game, when Amy Shelley hit a bases loaded screaming single up the middle that was misplayed by the centerfielder and rolled all the way to the fence, clearing the bases and scoring Shelley in the process, giving the Cobras a 6-1 lead.

The Falcons would not be put down and in the sixth inning they gave Coker a scare, as they scored four runs off Coker reliever Shelly Catlett. However, that would be all the damage that the Falcons would cause and Coker would win 6-5.

Coker starter Somer Bigham (9-3) earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in five innings of work, with 13 strike outs.

Fairmont’s Alyssa Childers took the loss, allowing five runs on one hit with three walks in one and two-thirds innings of work.

In Game two, Coker’s offense got started early as the Cobras scored three runs in the first and four in the second, for an early 7-0 lead. Fairmont held Coker scoreless in the third and added a run of their own in the fourth, but the Cobras answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, taking a 10-1 lead. After a quick fifth inning the game was called and Coker had their second victory of the day.

Amanda Shelton (6-3) picked up the win for Coker, allowing only one run on four hits in five innings, with two strike outs.
