Thomasville, N.C.- Eunice Nettles of Coker College (5-1 overall, 0-0 CVAC) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women’s softball "Player of the Week".  Eunice Nettles was the offensive leader for Coker as they routed Shaw University, 17-0 and 23-2, in a double-header on Saturday Feb. 25.  Nettles went a combined 4-for-5 with three home runs, a double and nine rbi.  In the first game Eunice was a perfect 3-for-3 with three home runs and then went 1-for-2 with a double in the second game for Coker.  Her three home runs in a game was just one shy of tying the NCAA DII record for home runs in a game.

         

          Somer Bigham of Coker College (5-1 overall, 0-0 CVAC) has been selected as the CVAC women’s softball “Pitcher of the Week”.  Somer Bigham backed up Coker’s explosive offense with a stellar pitching performance in a 17-0 win over Shaw University on Saturday.  Bigham threw a perfect game allowing no hits, no walks and no runs, while striking out 13.  She did all this in a game that had to be shortened to five innings because of the run difference.  For the year Bigham is 3-0 with a 0.43 era and she as struck out 32 in 16.1 innings of work, while only giving up four hits and four walks.
