2022-23: Ran in five meets this season...Ran his fastest time of 32:27.8 at the Newberry Invitational.

2021-22: Competed in all six meets as a sophomore...Ran his season best time of 28:57.1 at the Royals Challenge.

2020-21: Did not compete in any meets this season. 

High School: Attended Birchmount Park Collegeiate Institute where he was a member of the cross country, track, and swim team...Bates competed at OFSAA all four years in cross country...His team competed in championships in 2016...Was one of four people to be nominated for athlete of the year award in 2018 and 2020...Bates was a named to the Honor Roll in 2020 and a member of the Birchmount Exceptional Athlete Program...He participated on the Phoenix Athletics travel team where he competed in the Nationals Cross Country in 2017 and 2018.
