How It Happened
The Cobras roared out to a hot start, securing the doubles point in stunning fashion. With a dominant win on court one and a close loss on court two, it was down to Van Asdonck and Pugliese on court three. In a set tiebreak at 6-6 all, the Cobras came through clutch and brought home a 7-6 (4) victory to clinch the doubles point and head up 1-0 into singles play.
For a while in singles, it seemed as if any court could go either way. The Cobras fell on court five to even it up 1-1, then they fell on court four to give LMU the 2-1 lead. At that point, it looked as if the four remaining courts could go any direction. Unfortunately, it was courts two and three that finished as Coker losses that clinched the match for LMU at 4-1.
Notables
- The Cobras were just points away from claiming an upset over the top-ranked team in the SAC and the #18 team in the country
- Lamers put up a great showing at first singles against the top-ranked singles player in the conference, winning the first set and on serve in the second before the Cobras fell
