
Cobras Blank Tigers in Non-Conference Play
The Coker men's tennis team notched a 9-0 victory over the Tigers of Benedict College on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's tennis team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Benedict College on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon.
The Cobras picked up a clean sweep during the doubles portion of the match. William Marrafao and Simon Bergbom picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while the duos of Mark Watt and Felix Schweyer and Zach Grooms and Dominic Allan notched identical 8-5 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
Marrafao tallied a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles and Watt registered a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Bergbom racked up a 6-2, 6-4 win, while Schweyer got a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 4 singles. Rounding out the wins for Coker were Grooms and Allan, with 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 and 6-2, 6-2 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Coker will be back in action tomorrow (Feb. 8) for its first South Atlantic Conference match with the Anderson University Trojans. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Anderson University.
