No. 33 Cobras Blank Bears for Seventh Straight Win
The No. 33 Coker men's tennis team beat Shaw University 6-0 on Saturday (Apr. 5) for its seventh straight victory.
HARSTVILLE, S.C. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team picked up a 6-0 non-conference victory over the Bears of Shaw University on Saturday (Apr. 5). The win improves the Cobras' overall record to 9-6.
For the fourth straight match the Navy and Yellow swept the doubles portion of play with scores of 9-7, 8-6 and 8-5 in No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Andre Staab would notch a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, while Tom Sizeland registered a 6-3, 7-5 straight-set win of his own at No. 2 singles. Rounding out the wins for Coker was William Marrafao at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
Sizeland's victory extended his singles winning streak to 13 matches, while Staab and Marrafao each have winning streaks of eight and seven matches, respectively.
The Cobras will return to the court on Thursday (Apr. 10) when they host the Pioneers of Tusculum College in a SAC showdown. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Coker Tennis Courts.
