Coker Falls to Limestone in Tournament Championship
Coker dropped the championship match of the conference tournament to Limestone 5-2. The Cobras will await an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
SUMTER, S.C. – The Cobra men's tennis team fell short of capturing the program's first ever Conference Carolinas Tournament championship on Sunday (Apr. 21), falling to Limestone in the tournament final, 5-2. The loss drops Coker to 18-5 overall.
Coker will now wait to see if they earn an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament, selections will be made on Tuesday (Apr. 23).
Coker fell behind 2-1 after doubles, with James Corfield and Martin Moncayo picking up the lone victory at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
A pair of losses in singles play put Limestone up 4-1, but Moncayo's 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 made it a 4-2 match. The Saints picked up the fifth and final victory needed to take the match after a hard fought battle at No. 2.
Both Corfield and Moncayo earned all-tournament team honors. Moncayo did not lose a single match during the entire tournament and Corfield lost just one match.
