
Cobra Men's Tennis Stays Perfect in Conference Play
The Coker men's tennis team picked up their fifth straight win in Conference Carolinas play against Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday (Mar. 17), 7-2.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker Cobras stretched their Conference Carolinas winning streak to five matches with a 7-2 victory over Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday (Mar. 17) in men's tennis action. The Cobras are now 9-3 overall and 5-0 in league play.
The Cobras opened the competition by winning two of three doubles matches. Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao picked up an 8-4 win at No.2, while James Corfield and Martin Moncayo were victorious at No. 3, 8-7.
Moving into singles action, the Cobras won five of six matches, including two thrilling three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Sizeland earned the first three-set win at No. 2. After dropping the first set of the match, 4-6, Sizeland posted a 6-0 victory and a 6-4 victory, to win the match. The second three-set victory came from Marrafao at No. 3. He won the first set of the match, 6-4, but after dropping the second set, 5-7, Marrafao took the third set, 7-5.
Also earning singles wins were Andre Staab at No. 1, 7-5, 6-1, Corfield at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3 and Moncayo at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1.
The Cobras will be back at home for their next match on Saturday (Mar. 23) against Mount Olive at 1 p.m.
