
Coker Blanks Benedict 9-0
The Coker men's tennis team picked up a shutout, defeating Benedict 9-0 on Saturday (Feb. 9).
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coker men's tennis team improved to a 2-1 record with a 9-0 clean sweep of Benedict College on Saturday (Feb. 9).
Andre Staab and George Handy were victorious at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao won at No. 2 with a score of 8-1. James Corfield and Martin Moncayo picked up the shutout win at No. 3 with a score of 8-0.
Then in singles play Staab won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0, while Sizeland won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Handy got the win at No. 3 with scores of 6-1, 7-5 and Marrafao got the win at No. 4 with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Corfield and Moncayo rounded out the field for the Cobras with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively.
Coker will be back on the court for its 2013 home opener against Francis Marion. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
