MEN'S SOCCER STAFF NAMED SOUTHEAST REGION COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR

Under the guidance of head coach Michael Antoniewicz, associate head coach Matt Dunn, goalkeeper's coach Tony Vu, and graduate assistant Connor McAlister, the Cobras had one of their (if not the) greatest seasons in program history. Team accomplishments include being the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Co-Champs, tying their highest national ranking ever (4th), setting the record for most goals in a season (51), earning SAC Staff of the Year, going on a 13-game unbeaten streak (program record), and going on the furthest postseason run in program history (Sweet 16).

 

The staff also guided numerous players to individual awards. The team had eight athletes named to the All-SAC team with four being named to the first team (both program records). They received three All-Region nominees as well and may have an All-American if things go their way. Oskar Kaufmann was named the Freshman of the Year in the SAC, and Matty Tricker was named a First-Team All-SAC honoree, SAC Defensive Player of the Year, and First-Team All-Region. Frederic Benedix also broke the single-season assist record with 16 in the 2024 campaign and now sits in second all-time with 23 in his career.

 

Along with the numerous on-the-field accolades, the Cobras got it done in the classroom as well. As announced yesterday, they had six athletes named to the Academic All-District team, while Nikola Sotra was named the 2024 SAC Elite 23 winner (given to the conference player with the highest GPA that has seen action in 70% of contests this year). As of now, they have not announced the Academic All-Americans, but it is entirely possible that the Cobras will get someone named to that list as well.
