Hartsville, SC - An "ugly win" would definitely be one way to describe it, as a physical matchup that came down to the end resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Cobras over the Pioneers of Tusculum.
A couple of close calls for both teams made this an interesting first half, even if it did end up 0-0. The most enthralling one came in the 31st minute when keeper Charlie Walker saved a penalty shot with a gorgeous dive to keep this one even. Walker kept a clean sheet this evening and recorded two saves.
In the second half, things were just as tight-knit as in the first half. Tensions were high, tempers were flaring, and cards were being shown. Finally, in the 83rd minute, Jesper Schierholz had a beautiful strike into the top left corner to put the Cobras up by one.
With a few close calls in the last seven minutes of play, the Cobras managed to grind out a gritty win to move to 12-1-0 on the season and extend their win streak to ten. As of now, they are two games away from tying the record for the longest win streak in program history.
They will look to close that gap even further this Friday, November 1st, as they travel to face off against a tough opponent in Mars Hill. Kick-off for that match-up is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
