Hartsville, SC - Three years ago, the Cobras opened their campaign with seven straight wins. The eighth game? A 2-1 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. Tonight, the Cobras matched that 2021 win streak with a huge 3-1 win over the Bears; true poetic justice.
The game started off tight-knit, with the first half-hour going without a scoring effort. However, the Cobras opened the gates in the 34th minute, scoring off a penalty by Matty Tricker to take a 1-0 lead.
They carried that lead into the second half and it remained that line for around fifteen minutes. In the 62nd minute, Frederic Benedix linked up with Youri Keijser for the second goal of the game to break the recent stalemate, taking a commanding 2-0 lead.
Things got interesting with under ten minutes left on the clock, with the Bears cutting into the lead at 2-1. Tensions were high, tempers flared, and the atmosphere at the Coker Athletic Turf was absolutely rocking. The environment was visibly phasing the Bears and elevating the play of the Cobras. With the backing of the fans here in Hartsville, Coker put the nail in the coffin in the 84th minute off a Rafa Reno goal to seal the 3-1 win.
Coker will head back into action on Wednesday, traveling to play the Wolves of Newberry. Kickoff for this one is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
