Cobras Defend Home Turf with Saturday Night Shutout of Converse

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men's soccer defended its home turf Saturday night (Sept. 3) with a 1-0 win over non-conference foe Converse.

The lone marker in the contest came in the 22nd minute, when Frederic Benedix came free on a run down the near wing and crossed a ball into the box. Ché Richards was able to get a head on it and send it just underneath the crossbar past the Converse keeper. The Cobras created several other chances in the match, while defying any chances that Converse created to preserve the clean sheet.

Felix Stoeffler, Tony Barry, Richards, Celestin Blondel and Mitchel Starrs registered shots in the game for the Cobras. Jasper Rump (1-1-1) made five saves in his first clean sheet of the season.

The Cobras (1-1-1) return to the pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 7) to host regional foe Francis Marion. Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m. from the Coker Athletic Field, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com
