Men’s Soccer Upsets No. 9 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Coker University men's soccer team pulled off a huge victory on the road Saturday (Oct. 16) as they took down the No. 9 Limestone Saints by a score of 3-2.

Coker jumped out to an early lead in the second minute of play when Luca Leonini played a through ball to Jacques Fokam-Sandeu, who slid a shot past the Saints keeper to make the score 1-0. The Saints would battle back with two goals before halftime to give them the 2-1 lead at the break.

The Cobras would tie the game up in the 58th minute as Luca Leonini added another assist to his total on the night with a pass to Gabin Guillou who would put the ball in the back of the net to even the score at 2-2.

That is where the score would stay until the 83rd minute when freshman Bastiaan Jager made his impact on the game. The big man pounced on a recycled ball into the eighteen and finished with a beautiful bicycle kick to beat the Limestone keeper and give the Cobras the lead and the victory 3-2.

The Cobras (10-3) were able to put up three goals despite having just four shots for the game. Freshman goalkeeper Jasper Rump (10-3) recorded a pair of saves in net. The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 20) when they host the Bears of Shaw University in a non-conference showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., video and live stats can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
