CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker University men's soccer team came up short by a score of 2-1 to the Queens University Royals on Saturday (Oct. 19).
It was a rainy night in Charlotte as the weather played a factor in the pace of play. Both teams struggled to convert on scoring opportunities until the 30th minute when Kieran Gore scored the only goal of the first half as the Royals took a 1-0 lead going into halftime. However, the Cobras did a great job offensively with 12 first half shot attempts.
Just thirteen seconds into the second half, Jacques Fokam-Sandeu escaped the Royals defense and fired a shot past the Royals' goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk to tie the match at 1-1. The goal was Fokam-Sandeu's sixth of the season.
In the 58th minute, the Royals scored the match-clinching goal when Michael Hornsby found the back of the net to give Queens a 2-1 advantage. The Royals defense held strong the remainder of the match despite the Cobras firing 22 shots, with nine of them on goal.
The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 27) when they travel to Greeneville, Tennesee to take on the Tusculum University Pioneers. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
