Cobras Inch Past Indians in SAC Matchup
The Coker College men’s soccer team picked up its second South Atlantic Conference victory in a row as the Cobras took down Catawba 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 14).

SALISBURY, N.C.- The Coker College men's soccer team picked up its second South Atlantic Conference victory in a row as the Cobras took down Catawba 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 14).
The Cobras got out to a slow start in the match, and eventually surrendered the opening goal in the 29th minute to find themselves down early. With just 16 seconds remaining in the first half, the Cobras were gifted an opportunity to level by way of a penalty. Christian Provenzano stepped up for the spot kick, but his effort was saved and sent the game into the half with Catawba maintaining their one goal advantage.
Provenzano would make up for his penalty in the 55th minute when his cross was deflected into the back of the net by a Catawba defender for an own goal. After the 74th minute Catawba was unable to manage a single shot as the Cobras seized control of the game. Following numerous attempts, the Cobras finally gained the advantage in the 88th minute after Joao Silva's free kick was headed past the keeper by Matt Trimby for his second goal on the year.
Trimby utilized his prowess in the air to lead the team with four shots and two on goal, while Provenzano and Riccardo Ricci both recorded two shots. Morgan Ratcliffe chipped in with a shot of his own. Freshman Justin Watkins impressed in goal during his first collegiate start, picking up the win while making three saves and allowing just one goal.
The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 17) as they travel to Newberry to take on the Wolves in a South Atlantic Conference match at 3:30 p.m.
