Provenzano Propels Cobras to Overtime Win Over Shaw

RALEIGH, N.C.- The Coker College men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Shaw University in overtime on Tuesday (Sept. 25).

The Cobras found themselves in a hole early in the match after Shaw took the lead with a goal in the 30th minute and held a halftime advantage. Following the break Christian Provenzano netted his second goal of the season in the 64th minute after his shot deflected off the post and found the back of the net. Both teams fought hard for the game-winner in regulation but after 90 minutes of play the score remained tied at one.

Just three minutes into the first overtime period, Provenzano bagged a brace following an excellent run and precise shot from a difficult angle to send the Cobras home with the win.

Provenzano led the Coker attack with two goals on seven shots, with five of those being on goal. Jacob Simonis had two shots a one on goal, while Steffen Husum managed a shot on goal. Lucas Miquel Castrillo, Riccardo Ricci, and Matt Trimby all fired off one shot as well. In goal, Zach Watson made one save.

The Cobras will return to the pitch against SAC foe Queens on Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Coker Athletic Field starting at 7 PM.
