Cobras Host Carson-Newman on Senior Day

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team will host the visiting Carson-Newman University Eagles tomorrow (Oct. 28) afternoon on Senior Day. Opening kick is set for 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com

Prior to Saturday's game, Coker will be honoring its six seniors in Justin Walker, Joby Griggs, Chris Bordelon, Albert Schonhofer, Omar Govea, and Mike Ritterbeck. 

Walker is a Criminology major and is from Port Saint Lucie, Fla. During his time at Coker, Walker has appeared in 18 games and has started in 17 of those in goal. He has recorded 72 saves and three shutouts. The senior goalkeeper is the son of Sherry and Russell Walker. 

Griggs is a Physical Education major from West Sussex, England. He has appeared in 27 games and started in 24 at Coker. During his three years, the senior defenseman has fired off 11 shots and three shots on goal. He is the son of Maria Griggs. 

Bordelon is an Exercise Science major and is from Baton Rouge, La. The senior midfielder has played in 37 games and has started in 26 of them. He has recorded one goal and two assists this season. Last year, Bordelon was named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament team. He is the son of Geraldine and Steven Bordelon. 

Schonhofer is a Business major from Barcelona, Spain. During his time representing the Navy and Gold, he has tallied three shots with one on goal. He is the son of Elena and Fritz Schonhofer. 

Govea is from Bluffton, S.C. and has played in seven games for the Navy and Gold. The senior midfielder is the son of Blanca Jimenez and Adolfo Govea. 

Ritterbeck is Business major from Hilton Head Island, S.C. The senior goalkeeper has played in 16 games and has started in 12 of them. Ritterbeck has collected 67 saves and two shutouts during his career with the Navy and Gold. He is the son of Ruthe and Michael Ritterbeck. 

The Navy and Gold enter tomorrow afternoon's match riding a two game win streak with victories over Queens and Barton. Most recently, the Cobras earned a dominant 5-0 victory over the Barton College Bulldogs off five unanswered goals from Jacob Simonis, Aladdin Elfares, Cameron McDonald, Joao Silva, and Franciso Vargas. 

Offensively, the Cobras have been led by Elfares, whom has team-best 17 points (six goals, five assists). Other Cobras with multiple goals include Simonis (four), McDonald (two), and Robbie Jenkinson (two). In goal, Walker has collected 40 saves and three shutouts on the year.

Carson-Newman comes into tomorrow's conference contest with a 9-5-2 overall record, which includes a 6-1-2 mark in SAC play. Tobias Solem Karlsen leads the way offensively for the Eagles with 11 goals and two assists. 

As mentioned, opening kick is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.
