BRISTOL, TENN. – Senior Niko Tirkkonen found the back of the net for the game-winning goal in Coker's 1-0 victory over King College in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action Wednesday night. The win moves the Cobras to 1-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall.
The Cobras poured on the offensive pressure from the opening kick-off as 11 different Coker players combined for 17 shots, compared to just five for the Tornado. Coker also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
After a scoreless first half, Tirkkonen's goal in the 71st minute gave Coker the 1-0 win. Assisting on the game-wining goal were Noah Lascell and Tony Quiroz. Coker goalkeeper James Sweeney made three saves and earned his first shutout of the season.
The Cobras will return to the pitch for a conference match against Pfeiffer University at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Misenheimer, N.C.
