Coker Men's Soccer Announces Additions to 2012 Squad

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College head men's soccer coach Paul Leese has announced the addition of two student-athletes that will be joining the Cobras for the 2012 season, Daniel Jackson and Arun Vigneswararajah.

"I'm excited about the shape of our team for next year," said Leese. "Arun will add strength to our defensive line-up and Daniel will do the same for our attack. Both players are mature, experienced and bring the right attitude to our team and to the mission of Division II athletics.  With only a few new players there will be a much shorter learning period and a quicker integration into our team dynamic.  I hope to see the result of this on the field in the fall."

Jackson, a native of Silver Springs, Maryland, joins the Cobras from Cumberland University. As a freshman at Cumberland he tallied five goals and an assist. Prior to his time at Cumberland, Jackson was a four-sport athlete at South Haven High School, lettering in soccer, basketball, track and cross country. On the soccer field he amassed 92 goals in four years, making him the fourth highest goal scorer in South Haven history.  He was named First Team All-State his senior year for soccer and was a First Team All-Conference selection in all four sports.

Vigneswararajah comes to Coker from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Sandalwood Heights Secondary School, where he was the MVP for the men's soccer team his sophomore, junior, and senior years.  He played for the Dixie Supernova U18 club team, helping them earn a No. 1 ranking in Ontario and a top five ranking in Canada. He was named to the Honor Roll all four years of high school and was the valedictorian of his graduating class.

The Cobra men finished the season ranked No. 18 in the nation with a record of 18-3. They were Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champions and they made the program's first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
