TOWSON, Md. – Coker College junior goalkeeper James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men's Soccer First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Sweeney is one of only two juniors selected for Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA II men's soccer first team, the other, a junior forward from Bloomsburg University, Bryce Shaffer.
A mathematics major, Sweeney, along with two other first team members, has a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Sweeney was a first team All-Conference selection at goalkeeper, leading Coker to a 18-3 record. He helped Coker capture both the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships, as well as leading the Cobras to their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. He also earned Daktronics All-Southeast region honors after posting a 0.61 goals against average that included 10 shutouts and a .817 save percentage.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-II Academic All-America teams program.
