Cobra Men Poised for a Great 2011 Season
Coker College head men's soccer coach Paul Leese and company had have two successful seasons in a row, as the team advanced to the Conference Finals in both of Leese's years at the helm. And this season the club is poised to make a run deeper into the post-season.
"We have made it to the final for the past two years," Leese said, "by the nature of that success, the players now feel that reaching the final is the goal they strive for every year."
For some, Conference is only the tip of the iceberg. "We'd love to win Nationals," said junior Noah Lascell, "but we have to take it one step at a time." The first step would be advancing out of Conference play into Regionals and then beyond.
The team finished with a record of 7-7-5 last season. The Cobras look to add more offensive success for the upcoming season with the help of last season's points leader and Second Team All-Conference performer, Rommel Fondin returning for his junior season. On the defensive side, junior goalkeeper James Sweeney returns after posting six clean sheets last year.
A road trip to Florida will open up the Cobras' season as they head to play Florida Tech in Melbourne on September 3, then Rollins in Winter Park on September 5. Both teams will provide a good challenge for Coker to start their 2011 campaign.
